The World Strongman Championship in Dubai were held on March 28, 2024 in a new single distance format: athletes competed in random pairs. This format, according to Vladimir Burdun, the President of the International Union of World Strongman, was developed with the aim of presenting the sport of strongman in the Olympic movement.

The prospects for recognition of strongman sport were discussed with world sports leaders who visited the World Championships: Ivo Ferriani, member of the IOC Executive Committee, President of the SportAccord; Stefan Fox, President of the Alliance of Independent Members of Sports (AIMS); Julia Govinden, President of United Through Sport (UTS). The distinguished guests provided explanations of the current situation, stages and principles of joining the Olympic movement at the annual general meeting of the International Union of World Strongman.

The World Strongman event was attended by representatives from 42 countries. The Dubai Sports Council’s support for the World Strongman Championships underscored the UAE’s commitment to innovation as one of the world’s leading sporting destinations. The organizing operator was Emirates Sports Group.

Nic the near perfect athlete with complete upper and lower body strength, with added speed and mobility. Apologies is the SA version of Mark Felix, a man that simply gets better with time, always in a state of excellent conditioning. Together these 2 athletes have for well more than a decade competed and even dominated the local circuit. Often one sees an athlete competing in Strongman, almost obsessively dedicating a season to the sport, dieting and training single mindedly. ….

• by the decision of the ExCo R. Djuraev and S. Konyushok were removed from the organization and cancelled from their positions as president & 1st vice-president;
• by the decision of the ExCo our organization has been rebranded to the World Strongman International Union of associations and clubs.

World Strongman is an internationally acclaimed sport public organization within strength athletics that has been founded in 2003 and re-organized in 2007 and in 2022. World Strongman has global members across 50 countries. World Strongman is a government body for strongmen sport in all over the world, and main focus is on development: the strategy with 2 main directions: – the strongmen sport: with world championships, standard 10 events, standard rules, 5 weight categories and women sport; – the sport for all – the strongman ethnosport we see as historical and cultural base for modern strongmen sport.
