The World Strongman Championship in Dubai were held on March 28, 2024 in a new single distance format: athletes competed in random pairs. This format, according to Vladimir Burdun, the President of the International Union of World Strongman, was developed with the aim of presenting the sport of strongman in the Olympic movement.

The prospects for recognition of strongman sport were discussed with world sports leaders who visited the World Championships: Ivo Ferriani, member of the IOC Executive Committee, President of the SportAccord; Stefan Fox, President of the Alliance of Independent Members of Sports (AIMS); Julia Govinden, President of United Through Sport (UTS). The distinguished guests provided explanations of the current situation, stages and principles of joining the Olympic movement at the annual general meeting of the International Union of World Strongman.

The World Strongman event was attended by representatives from 42 countries. The Dubai Sports Council’s support for the World Strongman Championships underscored the UAE’s commitment to innovation as one of the world’s leading sporting destinations. The organizing operator was Emirates Sports Group.

– among women U75, Brendali Theron from South Africa/UAE won (10 points), Natalya Kuznetsova from Russia (8 points) was in second place, Fatma Mohamed El-Gazzar from Egypt was in third place (6 points);

   – among men in the U95 category, Vladlen Valyaev from Russia won (35 points), second place was Sahib Bahirov from Azerbaijan (34 points), third place was Artem Mironov from Russia (31 points);

– among men in the U110 category, Leonty Miroshnik from Russia won (30 points), second place Alexey Kosterin from Russia (28 points), third place Roman Druzhinin from Russia (26 points).

Introducing 2 of the best Hermanus Strongmen, Nic Lotter and Apologise Mncube, both of whom have been inducted in the SA World Strongman Hall of Fame. Nic the near perfect athlete with complete upper and lower body strength, with added speed and mobility. Apologies is the SA version of Mark Felix, a man that simply gets better with time, always in a state of excellent conditioning. Together these 2 athletes have for well more than a decade competed and even dominated the local circuit. Often one sees an athlete competing in Strongman, almost obsessively dedicating a season to the sport, dieting and training single mindedly. ….

In competition 36 athletes participated in total in different weight categories (Women U65, Men U80, Men U100, Men100+). Circus Classic lasted 2 days and every weight category was competing both days. The first day consisted of a Carry Medley (sandbag to farmer’s to yoke to arm over arm), Hercule’s Hold, Squat for Reps (the athletes had 1 minute to achieve as many reps as they could). The second day they competed in Axle Deadlift, Overhead Medley (Log Press, Heavier Log Press, Axle Overhead Press, Giant Dumbell for Reps) and finally Atlas Stones.
Volunteering Rescue Team ‘Epilektoi Omada Markopoulou-Kouvara’ was covering the event, however everything went smoothly and no health safety incidents occurred.

Also, the Elliniko Somateio Dynamikou Triathlou (WSF Greece) in collaboration with the Circus Strongman Experience organized for the first time in Greece the WSF Strongman Referee Seminar – National Level 2021, which was under the World Strongmen Federation. The seminar was organized free for the training-certification of judges who participated voluntarily in CIRCUS CLASSIC 2021 – Strongman Event.

That kind of initiatives import great things for the future of Strongman in Greece!

This show is the 11th edition of the 2021 Arnold Classic Europe. This year, the event was held in the colorful city of Seville, Spain, from Thursday 16th September to Monday 20th September 2021. As every year, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (video speech) next to IFBB President, Dr. Rafael Santonja, was host this great event with different kinds of sport and physical activity, with the best IFBB athletes from all over the world.

Location of the 2021 Arnold Classic Europe for this year is the colourful beautiful city of Seville, with a big tourist attractive and the warmth of its people, made ARNOLD CLASSIC EUROPE an unforgettable event. Being the capital of the south of Spain, it’s perfect to host our event since Seville flaunts a rich and wide history, culture and gastronomy, not forgetting that it’s one of the most touristic cities in Europe. All of this collected inside of a spectacular climate throughout the year.

The venue for the 2021 Arnold Classic Europe is the Palace of Congress and Exhibitions FIBES in Seville, located 6km from the city town, was the home for our event during September 16th – 20th 2021. It is recognized as a great meeting point in the city where many national and international events are held there and it counts with two modern and independents buildings (FIBES I & FIBES II), both connected by a walkway.
