News from RSA. Yesterday’s Gateway Centre Strongman Show was another great success with an appreciative crowd, athletes pushing until there’s nothing more!!
Thanks to Gateway Lifestyle Centre and their office staff, our main sponsor BUCO for their stunning Ryobi power tools prizes, the competition shirts, also for funding Elite Sporting Engagements, the other businesses involved, especially Coastal Timbers and my ever willing wife Michelle Q Kruger for her capable judging and scoring. And grateful to run these events under the banner of World Strongman. Thank you to our local newspaper photographers like Taylum Meyer for capturing our events.

From RSA: It’s Strongman Season in Hermanus!!

On this coming Saturday, 24 Sept, at the Gateway Lifestyle Centre, there will be a Social Strongman Show for local businesses and experienced strongmen alike.

Then on Sunday 2 October at the Whale Festival, it will be all action as the best Strongmen in the Western Cape will do battle in three grueling events!!

Introducing 2 of the best Hermanus Strongmen, Nic Lotter and Apologise Mncube, both of whom have been inducted in the SA World Strongman Hall of Fame. Nic the near perfect athlete with complete upper and lower body strength, with added speed and mobility. Apologies is the SA version of Mark Felix, a man that simply gets better with time, always in a state of excellent conditioning. Together these 2 athletes have for well more than a decade competed and even dominated the local circuit. Often one sees an athlete competing in Strongman, almost obsessively dedicating a season to the sport, dieting and training single mindedly. ….

In competition 36 athletes participated in total in different weight categories (Women U65, Men U80, Men U100, Men100+). Circus Classic lasted 2 days and every weight category was competing both days. The first day consisted of a Carry Medley (sandbag to farmer’s to yoke to arm over arm), Hercule’s Hold, Squat for Reps (the athletes had 1 minute to achieve as many reps as they could). The second day they competed in Axle Deadlift, Overhead Medley (Log Press, Heavier Log Press, Axle Overhead Press, Giant Dumbell for Reps) and finally Atlas Stones.
Volunteering Rescue Team ‘Epilektoi Omada Markopoulou-Kouvara’ was covering the event, however everything went smoothly and no health safety incidents occurred.

Also, the Elliniko Somateio Dynamikou Triathlou (WSF Greece) in collaboration with the Circus Strongman Experience organized for the first time in Greece the WSF Strongman Referee Seminar – National Level 2021, which was under the World Strongmen Federation. The seminar was organized free for the training-certification of judges who participated voluntarily in CIRCUS CLASSIC 2021 – Strongman Event.

That kind of initiatives import great things for the future of Strongman in Greece!

This show is the 11th edition of the 2021 Arnold Classic Europe. This year, the event was held in the colorful city of Seville, Spain, from Thursday 16th September to Monday 20th September 2021. As every year, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (video speech) next to IFBB President, Dr. Rafael Santonja, was host this great event with different kinds of sport and physical activity, with the best IFBB athletes from all over the world.

Location of the 2021 Arnold Classic Europe for this year is the colourful beautiful city of Seville, with a big tourist attractive and the warmth of its people, made ARNOLD CLASSIC EUROPE an unforgettable event. Being the capital of the south of Spain, it’s perfect to host our event since Seville flaunts a rich and wide history, culture and gastronomy, not forgetting that it’s one of the most touristic cities in Europe. All of this collected inside of a spectacular climate throughout the year.

The venue for the 2021 Arnold Classic Europe is the Palace of Congress and Exhibitions FIBES in Seville, located 6km from the city town, was the home for our event during September 16th – 20th 2021. It is recognized as a great meeting point in the city where many national and international events are held there and it counts with two modern and independents buildings (FIBES I & FIBES II), both connected by a walkway.

WORLD STRONGMAN established acting branch in China – the CSF China Strongman Federation continues to push for the development of the sport and a competition league.  Head of CSF Mark Soo is informing: The first Shenzhen’s Strongest held in late April in southern China, Guangdong Province by Lifton and endorsed by CSF will become a regular in the competition calendar. The contest gathered local and foreign athletes that competed in a series of disciplines including Monster Dumbbell, Sandbag Carry, Log Press, Stone to Shoulder and Farmers Carry.  Another first is the Feel Good Fest- Strongman Challenge held in Shanghai by CSF also saw athletes take on disciplines such as Yoke Carry, Viking Press and the Apollon Wheel Elephant Bar deadlift. Both events drew big crowds with an amazing energy and were popular with the ladies as well! Good times and lots of fun, many of whom this was their first contest!

Team of the World Strongman and World Etnosport attended the annual congress of the General Association of Asia and Pacific Sports Federations – GAAPSF and the forum of the sports industry and education in Jinan, Shandun (China).

They also held talks with the president of GAAPSF – Ma Wenguang about joint projects of the World Strongman & World Ethnosport in Asia and Pasific, including China.

At the forum of the sports industry and education, Vladislav Redkin presented the Ethnosport Challenge project. The project aroused keen interest among the participants. As a result of the event, it was agreed to hold the largest Ethnosport Challenge event next year not only in Uzbekistan, but also in China.

An important step in the development of strongman sports in Asia and the Pacific was the signing of a license agreement with the Metal Muscle brand for the production of certified strongman equipment.

In Jinan, guests visited a technological university, computer center and Olympic center. Guests examined the places of possible strongman and ethnosport tournaments.

In same time good news came from another part of the world – in Bogota (Colombia) at a meeting of the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, it was decided to accredit the World Ethnosport as an advisory partner.

In the framework of this status, the center of activity of the World Ethnosport will be Uzbekistan also.

Exercises:
Qualification: time limit 60 seconds.

The tire stands on the starting position vertically. At the judge signal the Athlete pushes the tire forward, after the tire takes a horizontal position on the floor, the counting of the flipping is conducted. Athletes who could not turn over the tire the proper number times in the allotted time limit, the result is the number of overturns.

The athlete, after the starting signal of the judge, raises the log-lift from the floor, fixing over his head (1 sec). Elbows and knees should be straight, feet are in one line. It is forbidden to hold the log-lift on the head, in time of lifting from the chest and the removing both hands from the projectile during the execution. After the judge order, the athlete puts back the gear to its original position.

The athlete takes suitcases in both hands and by the judge’s signal starts moving forward.  At the end of the exercise the athlete should carry out the suitcases over the finish line completely.

Final: time limit 90 sec

The athlete approaches to the carousel, takes the pipe from below into the bent hands and by the signal of the judge lifts the carousel from the ground, starts to move the carousel forward in a circle. The goal of the athlete is to move as far as possible.  The result is fixed at the first putting down of the equipment on the floor.

Accessories are behind the starting line. At the signal of the judge, the athlete takes the bag and overcomes the distance of 20m, completely bringing the bag over the finish line, returns to the start and carries one more bag, returns to the starting line and accomplish the thrust of the sleigh (back movement).  The winner is the athlete who will complete the task as fast as possible.

The athlete, after the judge’s start signal, raises equipment from the floor, fixing over his head (1 sec). Elbows and knees should be straight, feet in one line. After the judge’s order, the athlete returns the equipment to the starting position.

The atleet sits in an emphasis, takes on a rope and, from the sitting position, begins to pull the cargo from start to finish position. The winner is the athlete who will overcome the distance at the shortest time. If the athlete does not fit into the time limit set, the distance which the athlete pulled the cargo is measured; in this case the advantage is given to the athlete who passed a greater distance.
